Hart, Alphonso

lawyer, journalist, lieutenant-governor, congressman, born July 4, 1830, in Vienna, Ohio. He editor of the Portage Sentinel from 1854 to 1857; and was elected prosecuting attorney of Portage county in 1861, and re-elected in 1863. In 1864 he resigned and was elected state senator; and was again elected state senator in 1871. In 1872 he was a presidential elector; and in 1873 was elected lieutenant-governor. He removed from Ravenna to Cleveland, Ohio; in 1878 settled at Hillsboro; and was elected a representative from Ohio to the forty-eighth congress.
