Hamilton, John Taylor
congressman, was born Oct. 16, 1843, near Geneseo, Ill. He removed to Iowa in 1868; is not a graduate of any college; since 1868 has been engaged in the wholesale farm machinery business; is president of the Cedar Rapids Savings bank, and a director in the Cedar Rapids City National bank; president of the Cedar Rapids Electric Light and Power company. He was was mayor of Cedar Rapids; was a member of the board of supervisors; three times a member of the state legislature, and speaker of the house. He was elected to the fifty-second congress as a democrat.
