Halleck, Fitz-Greene

poet, was born July 8, 1790, in Guilford, Conn. He was a poet who was for many years a clerk in a New York banking house, and subsequently confidential adviser to John Jacob Astor.

His verse has grace and sweetness, but is wanting in positive qualities, and has already largely passed out of remembrance. He was the author of Marco Bozzaris, which is his most famous poem; Fanny; Alnwick Castle, and Other Poems. He died Nov. 19, 1867, in Guilford, Conn.
