Greenleaf, Simon
educator, lawyer, jurist, author, was born Dec. 5, 1783, in Newburyport, Mass. He was a distinguished jurist of Massachusetts, and professor of law at Harvard university from 1835 till his death. His greatest work, A Treatise on the Laws of Evidence, has passed into fifteen editions. His other writings include Origin and Principles of Freemasonry; Full Collection of Cases Overruled, etc.; Reports of Cases in the Supreme Court of Maine, 1820-31; and Examination of the Testimony of the Four Evangelists by the Rules of Evidence. He died Oct. 6, 1853, in Cambridge, Mass.
