Greenleaf, Ezekiel Price

philanthropist, was born May 22, 1790, in Quincy, Mass. He bequeathed nearly all his estate, amounting to $500,000, to Harvard, with directions to keep it apart from other bequests, as the Greenleaf fund. He died Dec. 3, 1886, in Boston, Mass.

GREENLEAF, FRANKLIN LEWIS, manufacturer, was born Oct. 7, 1847, in Boston, Mass. He has been a prominent factor in developing the wheat industry of the northwest; and was for several years president of the Red River Valley Elevator company. In 1889 he was elected president of the Minneapolis chamber of commerce.

GREENLEAF, HALBERT STEVENS, soldier, manufacturer, lawyer, congressman, was born April 12, 1827, in Guilford, Vt. He was elected justice of the peace in 1856; and served two years as a captain of state militia. In 1861 he organized the Yale and Greenleaf Lock company, of which he became business manager. In 1862 he enlisted in the union army, and rose to the rank of colonel. He was elected a representative from New York to the forty-eighth and fifty-second congresses as a democrat.
