Gravely, Joseph J
soldier, state senator, congressman, was born in 1828 in Henry county, Va. In 1853 and 1854 he was elected to the Virginia legislature.
In 1854 he moved to Missouri, and was elected to the convention of that state in 1860. In 1862 he was elected to the senate of the state, and re-elected in 1864. During a part of the rebellion he was colonel of the eighth regiment of Missouri cavalry. After the close of the war he turned his attention to the practice of law; and in 1866 was elected a representative from Missouri to the fortieth congress.
