Gorley, Hugh Alexander
soldier, merchant, orator, author, poet, was born Nov. 25, 1833, in Uniontown, Pa. He attended the Madison college of his native city; and during the civil war was captain in company B, first regiment California volunteer infantry, attached to the column from California. In 1881 he served with distinction in the California state legislature as a representative from San Francisco. He has been a successful merchant of San Rafael, Cal., is president of the society of California Volunteers; a prominent member of the Grand Army of the Republic; and a member of the California Commandery of the Military Order, Loyal Legion of the United States.
