Gere, Charles Henry

lawyer, legislator, journalist, was born Feb. 18, 1838, in Gainesville, N. Y. He received his education at the Oxford academy, N. Y.; and in 1861 graduated from the Dickinson college, Pennsylvania. During 1863-65 he served as a union soldier in the tenth and eleventh regiments Maryland volunteer infantry. In 1865 he was admitted to the bar in Baltimore, and removed the same year to Nebraska and became prosecuting attorney of Pawnee county. In 1866 he served as a member of the Nebraska state legislature; was state senator in 1869-70 and 1881-82. In 1885-87 he was secretary of the state railway commissioners; and in 1892 was a delegate to the republican national convention. He is the editor-in-chief of the Nebraska Daily State Journal, and president of the State Journal company.
