Furniss, John P

physician, surgeon, was born Sept. 24, 1841, in Columbus, Miss. In 1860 he graduated from the university of Mississippi, and received the degree of B. A. He served as assistant surgeon in the confederate service during the civil war. He has been state medical referee for the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance company of Newark, N. J.; member of the state board of health; and is now one of the leading physicians of Alabama, in which state he has a large practice at Selma.
