French, John Raymond
educator, was born April 21, 1825, in Pulaski, N. Y.
In 1849 he graduated from Union college; and subsequently attained success in educational work. In 1859 he was admitted to the bar, and began the practice of his profession in Mexico, N. Y. In 1864 he was called to the chair of mathematics in Genesee college of Lima, N. Y., which was subsequently merged into the Syracuse university; and since 1872 until his death he was dean of its College of Liberal Arts.
