Franklin, Samuel Rhoads
naval officer, was born Aug. 25, 1825, in York, Pa. In 1841 he was appointed a midshipman; served in the Mexican war; was a commander during the civil war; and in 1880 was promoted to commodore.
In 1885 he became rear admiral; and a few years later was placed on the retired list.
FRANKLIN, THOMAS LEVERING, clergyman, author, was born April 10, 1822, in Philadelphia, Pa. He is an episcopal clergyman of western New York, and more recently of Philadelphia. His writings include an important work on The Creed, and several tractates on Divorce.
