Foster, Frank Hugh

clergyman, theologian, author, was born June 18, 1851, in Springfield, Mass. He filled the chair of philosophy in Middlebury college in 1882-84; of church history in the Oberlin Theological seminary in 1884-92; and since 1892 has been professor of systematic theology in the Pacific Theological seminary of Oakland, Cal. He is the author of The Seminary Method of Study in the Historical Sciences; and other works.

FOSTER, MRS. HANNAH WEBSTER, author, was born in 1759, in Massachusetts. She was a writer who was the wife of John Foster, minister at Brighton, Mass., in 1784-1827, and after his death a resident of Montreal. She wrote The Boarding School; Letters of a Preceptress; but is remembered chiefly for having been the author of the once famous story, The Coquette, or the History of Eliza Wharton. She died in 1840, in Montreal, Canada.
