Fisk, Clinton Bowen

lawyer, soldier, merchant, reformer, statesman, was born Dec. 8, 1828, in York, N. Y. He served with distinction through the civil war; was promoted brigadier-general in 1862, and brevetted major-general of volunteers in 1865. He actively aided in establishing the Fisk university of Nashville, Tenn., which was named for him. In 1886 he was the prohibition candidate for the governorship of New Jersey; and for sixteen years was president of the board of Indian commissioners. He died July 9, 1890, in New York city.
