Elmer, Ebenezer
soldier, physician, state senator, congressman, was born in 1752, in Cedarville, N. J. He was a field officer of the revolutionary war; and also a surgeon in the army. He was a representative in congress from New Jersey from 1801 to 1807; and served a number of years in the state assembly, and was chosen speaker. He was also for a long time adjutant-general of the New Jersey militia; and during the war of 1812 commanded the troops on the Delaware. In 1807 and 1815 he was a member and vice-president of the state council; and in 1808 was appointed collector of Bridgeton, and held the office for many years. He died Oct. 18, 1843, in Brighton, N. J.
