Edmunds, James M
statesman, was born Aug. 23, 1810, in Niagara county, N. Y. In 1839 he was elected to the state senate; and in 1846 to the lower house.
From 1857 to 1861 he was comptroller of Detroit, which office he resigned to become the commissioner of the general land office in Washington. In 1869 he became postmaster of Washington city; from 1855 to 1861 was chairman of the republican state central committee of Michigan; and president of the Michigan Soldiers' Relief association in Washington city, from its first organization in 1861.
