Eckles, John Brooks
lawyer, legislator, was born Sept. 6, 1868, in Pleas-. ant Grove, Miss. He is a son of a Virginia family. In 1889 he graduated from the university of Mississippi, with the degree of LL. B. In 1892 he was elected for four years and served with distinction as a member of the Mississippi house of representatives, but resigned Nov. 1, 1894, to accept the appointment of superintendent of education for Panola county, Miss., receiving the reappointment in 1896 for four years. He is also a successful lawyer, and operates planting interests.
