Durrie, Daniel Steele
educator, antiquarian, author, was born Jan. 2, 1819, in Albany, N. Y. In 1858 he became librarian of the State Historical society of Wisconsin. He has been superintendent of public schools at Roxbury, and secretary of the Madison board of education. Among his publications are genealogical histories of the Steele and Holt families; Bibliographica Genealogica Americana, or Index to American Pedigrees; History of Madison, Wis., and the Four-Lake Country (with W. B. Davis); History of Missouri; and Wisconsin Biographical Dictionary.
