Drayton, William Henry
jurist, statesman, author, was born in 1742, in South Carolina. In 1771 he was appointed a judge; was president of the provincial congress; and was made chief justice in 1776. He was a leading member of the South Carolina assembly; was a delegate to the continental congress from 1778 to 1779, and was a signer of the articles of confederation. He was the author of a History of the American Revolution, which was afterward published in three volumes by his son. He died in 1779.
