congressman. He was elected a representative from New York to the thirteenth congress, but died before taking his seat, Feb. 18, 1813.
DOX, PETER MYNDERT. lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Sept. 11, 1813, in Geneva, N. Y. He was elected to the legislature in 1841; and was judge of the Ontario county courts. He removed to Alabama in 1855, and engaged in agricultural pursuits; and in 1865 was elected, as a union man, to represent Madison county in the convention called for the revision of the state constitution; and took an active part in the restoration of the state to its place in the union. He was elected to the forty-first and forty-second congresses as a democrat.
