Dowdall, Edward

painter, sculptor, was born May 17, 1857, in Ireland. In 1865 he emigrated to the United States.

He attended grammar school No. 24 of New York city; Cooper Institute; National Academy of Design; and the Art Students' League of New York city, of which latter institution he is a life member.

He painted the large picture of Charles the First and Cromwell, which was exhibited in 1890 at the National Academy of Design; and has painted numerous portraits of prominent people of the United States. He also modeled in clay many busts which are now exhibited in various parts of the United States.
