Dexter, Henry Martyn

clergyman, author, was born Aug. 13, 1821, in Plympton, Mass. He was a congregational clergyman of prominence in Boston as editor of The Congregationalist in 1867-90. His most important work is The Congregationalism of the Last Three Hundred Years. He was the author of Handbook of Congregationalism; Pilgrim Memoranda; The Verdict of Reason; As to Roger Williams and His Banishment, a marked example of special pleading; History of the Old Plymouth Colony; History and the Study of History; The Right Use of Books; and The Study of Politics.

He died Nov. 13, 1890, in New Bedford, Mass.
