Daniels, Charles
lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born in 1826, in New York city. He was elected to the supreme court in 1863; was appointed by Governor Seymour to hold the office of justice of that court till January 1, 1864, when the term to which he had been elected commenced; and was twice re-elected and held the office till the last of December, 1891, a period of upward of twenty-eight years. He was elected to the fifty-third and fifty-fourth congresses as a republican, and declined to be a candidate in 1896.
