Crawford, William Harris
lawyer, jurist, United States senator, was born Feb. 24, 1772, in Amherst county, Va. was a In 1799 he was appointed to prepare a digest of the laws of Georgia. He served four years in the state legislature; and senator in congress from Georgia from 1807 to 1813. In 1815 he became secretary of war; and in 1817 was appointed secretary of the treasury, where he served with marked ability until 1825. In 1827 he was appointed judge of the northern circuit of Georgia, which office he held until his death. He died Sept. 15, 1834, in Albert county, Ga.
