lawyer, legislator, was born May 21, 1851, in Bartholomew county, Ind. He graduated from the Indiana university and has attained prominence as one of the foremost lawyers of Indiana. He has been mayor and prosecuting attorney of Columbus, Ind., and prosecuting attorney of his county. He served as a member of the fiftyfirst, fifty-second and fifty-third congresses as a democrat; and has always advocated a tariff measure limited to the wants of the government, administered with simplicity and economy; an advocate of sound finance; and in favor of all measures necessary for a stable government.
