Connell, William
congressman, was born Sept. 10, 1827, in Cape Breton, N. S. He was placed in charge of the mines of the Susquehanna and Wyoming Valley Railroad and Coal company, with offices at Scranton; and in 1870, the charter of that company lapsing, he purchased the plant with his savings and organized the firm of William Connell and Co. He is president of the Third National bank of Scranton, and has been prominent in charitable and religious work. He was a delegate to the republican national convention of 1896, and is a member of the Pennsylvania republican committee. He was elected to the fifty-fifth congress.
