Cleveland, Orestes

merchant, congressman, was born March 2, 1829, in Duanesburg, N. Y. He was in the city councils of Jersey City in 1861-62; president of the board of aldermen one year; was mayor of the city in 1864, 1865 and 1866; and rendered the union cause some financial help in 1864. He was elected a representative from New Jersey to the forty-first congress, serving on the committees on territories and manufactures. CLEVELAND, RICHARD JEFFREY, author, was born in 1773 in Massachusetts. He was the author of Voyages and Commercial Enterprises; and Voyages of a Merchant Navigator of the Days that are Past. He died in 1860.
