Caruth, Asher Graham
lawyer, congressman, was born Feb. 7, 1844, in Scottsville, Ky. He was attorney of the board of trustees of the public schools of Louisville, by annual elections, from 1873 until 1880; in 1880 was elected commonwealth's attorney for the ninth judicial district of Kentucky for the constitutional term of six years, and was re-elected without opposition in 1886. He was elected to the fiftieth, fifty-first, fiftysecond and fifty-third congresses. CARUTHERS, ELI WASHINGTON, clergyman, historian, was born Oct. 23, 1793, in Rowan county, N. C. He became pastor of Buffalo and Allemance churches in 1820. He is the author of Life of David Caldwell; and two volumes of Revolutionary Incidents and Sketches of Characters, Chiefly in the Old North State. He died Nov. 14, 1865, in North Carolina.
