Carr, Julian Shakespeare

manufacturer, banker, philanthropist, was born Oct. 12, 1845, in Chapel Hill, N. C.

He graduated from the university of North Carolina, of which institution he is a member of the executive committee of the board of trustees. He is also a member of the board of trustees of Trinity college; and a member of the board of directors of the Oxford asylum. In a 1883-91 he was a delegate from the state at large to the democratic national conventions. He was a delegate to the Ecumenical conference of the Methodism of the World, held in London; and a delegate to the Robert Raikes centennial. Mr. Carr is the president of the following companies: Blackwell's Durham Tobacco company; First National bank of Durham; Golden Belt Manufacturing company; and the Greensboro Female College association. He served in the confederate army in Barringer's brigade, Hampton's corps, in the army of Northern Virginia.
