Caldwell, John Merrill

soldier, clergyman, was born Aug. 29, 1839, in Rockland, Maine. He entered the union army in 1861, but was disabled after a few months of service. He joined the Rock River conference and served as principal of the Rock River seminary. In 1869 he went to the Princeton church, and since then he has been in charge of several prominent churches, among them the Ada Street and Western Avenue churches of Chicago. He is the presiding elder of the Chicago western district of the methodist episcopal church.
