Archbold, John Dustin

oil refiner, was born July 26, 1848, in Leesburg, Ohio. In 1864 he joined the rush to the Pennsylvania oil regions, and spent eleven years there in various branches of the petroleum industry. He rose to prominence, and has long been the chief proprietor and president of the Acme Oil company. Since 1875 he has been identified with the Standard Oil company, and a director since its organization, and is now vice-president of the Standard Oil company, of New York. He is president of the trustees of Syracuse university, and a director of the post-graduate hospital and training school and St. Christopher's home and orphanage.
