Allison, William B
lawyer, United States senator, was born March 2, 1929, in Perry, Ohio. He was educated at the Western Reserve college, Ohio; studied law and practiced in Ohio until he removed to Iowa in 1857. He served on the staff of the governor of Iowa and aided in organizing volunteers in the beginning of the war for the suppression of the rebellion. He was elected a representative in the thirty-eighth, thirty-ninth, fortieth, and forty-first congresses, and was elected to the United States senate as a republican, and took his seat March 4, 1873. He was re-elected in 1878, 1884, 1890, and 1897. His term of service will expire March 3, 1903.
