Allen, William (Lawyer congressman was born)
lawyer, congressman, was born Aug. 13, 1827, in Butler county, Ohio. He received a good English education; taught school for a time; studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1849. In 1850 he was elected a county prosecuting attorney, and re-elected in 1852. In 1858 he was elected a representative from Ohio to the thirty-sixth congress, and re-elected to the thirty-seventh congress. He was a delegate to the Chicago convention in 1864, and also to the Philadelphia national union convention of 1866.
