Alexander, Lorenzo P

soldier, merchant, state senator, was born Aug. 10, 1820, in Angelica, N. Y. When twentyone he settled in Buchanan, Mich. 1844 he was a militia captain, and in 1845 became colonel of the 28th regiment. He was a representative in the Michigan state legislature of 1841-42; in 1867 was member of the constitutional convention; and in 1871-72 state senator. He was a delegate to the republican national convention at Baltimore in 1864, and was a member of the committee that notified President Lincoln of his renomination.

He was postmaster of Buchanan from 1862 to 1866, and again from 1877 to 1886.
