Aldrich, William
merchant, legislator, congressman, was born Jan. 20, 1820, in Greenfield, N. Y. He was reared on a farm; received a good education; taught school for a time; in 1846 engaged in mercantile pursuits, and in 1851 removed to Wisconsin and engaged in merchandising and manufacturing. He was superintendent of schools for three years; was chairman of the board of supervisors one year, and was a member of the Wisconsin house of representatives in 1859. In 1860 he removed to Chicago, Ill., and engaged in the wholesale grocery business. He was a member of the board of aldermen in 1876, and was elected a representative from Illinois to the fortyfifth, forty-sixth and forty-seventh congresses. He died Dec. 3, 1885, in Fond du Lac, Wis.
