Adams, Seth
inventor, manufacturer, was born April 13, 1807, in Rochester, N. H. In 1836 he began the manufacture of the famous power printing presses which had been invented by his brother Isaac. For many years he had charge of the Adams Sugar Refinery, which was then the largest of its kind in the United States. He took an active part in the public affairs of Newton, Mass., where he died Dec. 7, 1873. He left large bequests of money to Bowdoin college, and other institutions; and a massive monument has been erected to his memory.
