Abell, Arunah S
founder of the Baltimore Sun, was born Aug. 8, 1806, in Providence, R. I. The Baltimore Sun was established as a penny paper in 1837 and placed under the special management of Mr. Abell. Upon this journal he won distinguished success. In 1868 he bought the interests of his associates in The Baltimore Sun, and thenceforward was sole owner of a property which made the fortunes of his family. The Baltimore Sun is now owned by the corporation of The A. S. Abell Co. He died April 19, 1888, in Baltimore, Md.
