Abbott, Russell Bigelow

clergyman, educator, college president, author, was born Aug. 8, 1823, in Brookville, Ind.

He received his education at the Indiana university, and during 1850-55 was principal of Newcastle seminary, and of the presbyterian for the two succeeding years. In 1857 he was ordained a clergyman in the presbyterian church, and filled pastorates in Brookville in 1857-64; and Knightstown in 1864-66; when he moved to Minnesota. In 1869 he was appointed principal of the St. Paul seminary, when he received a call as pastor of the presbyterian church of Albert Lea, which position he filled till 1884. Since 1884 he has been president of the Albert Lea college, and pastor of the presbyterian church. He is the author of History and Analysis of the Books of the Bible; Biblical History; and other works.
