He was elected member from Platte county to the twenty-sixth general assembly, and made speaker of the house. a He was state senator from the third district from 1876 to 1880, and was for several years president of the Agricultural and Stock association of his county. He was elected as a democrat to fill a vacancy in the fifty-first congress, and was re-elected to the fifty-second congress.
