Wheeler, William Almon

lawyer, banker, state senator, congressman, was born June 30, 1819, in Malone, N. Y.

In 1850 and 1851 he was elected to the New York state legislature, and in 1857 and 1858 to the state senate. In 1860 he was elected a representative from New York to the thirtyseventh congress. He was, for many years, engaged in the banking business, and was president of the Ogdensburg and Rouses' Railroad company. He was a delegate to the state constitutional convention of 1867, and was elected its president. He was elected to the forty-first and three succeeding congresses. In 1876 he was elected vice-president of the United States, and served the full term of four years. He died June 4, 1887, in New York.
