WATERMAN, THOMAS WHITNEY, lawyer, author, was born June 28, 1821, in Binghamton, N. Y. He is a lawyer of Binghamton who, besides editing many legal works, has written The Civil Jurisdiction of Justices of the Peace in New York; Civil and Criminal Jurisdiction of Justices in Wisconsin and Iowa; Principles of Law and Equity; The Law of Set- Off; The Law of Trespass; The Law Relating to Specific Performance of Contracts; and The Law of Corporations other than Municipal.

WATERS, MRS. CLARA [ERSKINE] [CLEMENT], author, was born Aug. 28, 1834, in St. Louis, Mo. She is an artwriter of Boston, and the author of Handbook of Legendary and Mythological Art; Painters, Sculptors, Architects, Engravers, and their Works, a Handbook; Christian Symbols (with K. Conway); Artists of the Nineteenth Century and their Works (with L. Hutton); Life of Charlotte Cushman; Eleanor Maitland, a novel; Stories of Art and Artists; Naples, the City of Parthenope; Venice, Mediæval and Modern; Constantinople, the City of the Sultans; History of Painting for Beginners and Students; and Rome, the Eternal City.

WATERS, HENRY FITZ-GILBERT, genealogist, was born March 29, 1833, in Salem, Mass. He received the honorary degree of A. M. from Harvard in 1885 for tracing the family of John Harvard, when other genealogists had failed. He has spent several years in England pursuing genealogical inquiries.
