Warren, Joseph (Soldier was born June)

soldier, was born June 11, 1741, in Roxbury, Mass. He possessed in perfection the gift of eloquence, and a speech delivered in March, 1772, on the anniversary of the Boston massacre, carried him at once to the helm, and for the brief period of his subsequent life he was one of the most prominent men in New England. He was elected major-general June 14, 1775, and fell at the battle of Bunker Hill, June 17, 1775. The Bunker Hill monument now stands near the spot where he fell.
