Warren, George William

musician, composer, was born Aug. 17, 1828, in Albany, N. Y. In 1860 he was invited to take charge of the music of the church of the Holy Trinity, Brooklyn, and ten years later he became organist of St. Thomas's church. He has written much church music and several pieces for the piano, and has published Hymns and Tunes as Sung at St. Thomas's Church, New York.

WARREN, GOUVERNEUR KEMBLE, soldier, author, was born Jan. 8, 1830, in Cold Spring, N. Y. He was a lieutenantcolonel in the engineer corps, majorgeneral of United States volunteers, and brevet majorgeneral in the United States army. He was the author of Explorations in the Dacota Country in 1855; Exploration of the Country Between the Missouri and the Platte Rivers; and The Battle of Five Forks, Virginia. He died Aug. 8, 1882, in Newport, R. I.
