Ward, Matthias
state senator, congressman, United States senator, was born about 1800 in Elbert county, Ga. served a number of years in the congress of the Texas republic; and when it became a state was elected to the legislature as a senator. In 1858 he was appointed a senator in congress from Texas for the term ending in 1863. He died Oct. 13, 1861, in Raleigh, N. C.
