Walton, George
signer of the declaration of independence, was born in 1740 in Frederick county, Va. In 1776 he was a delegate to congress from Georgia, and a signer of the declaration of independence and the articles of confederation. In 1779 he was chosen governor of the state. In 1780 he was again sent to congress; in 1783 was appointed chief justice of the state, and in 1787 was a delegate to the convention for framing the constitution of the United States, but declined taking his seat. In 1789 he was a presidential elector, and in 1793 was again judge of the supreme court. He died Feb. 2, 1804, in Augusta, Ga.
