Walker, Amasa
educator, merchant, state senator, congressman, was born May 4, 1799, in Woodstock, Conn. In 1842 he became professor of political economy at the Oberlin college, Ohio; and in 1843 visited Europe as a delegate to the peace congress; and went on the same mission in 1849. He was a member of the state legislature in 1849; was a state senator in 1850; and was secretary of state in 1851 and 1852. He was elected a representative from Massachusetts to the thirty-seventh congress to fill a vacancy. He was the author of Science of Wealth; and The Nature and Uses of Money. He died Oct. 29, 1875, in Brookfield, Mass.
