Sweet, John Edson

inventor, mechanical engineer, was born Oct. 21, 1832, in Pompey, N. Y. This successful inventor and manufacturer is president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. For many years he was professor of practical mechanics in Cornell university.

SWEET, SYLVESTER JAMES PERRY, educator, author, was born April 30, 1853, near Waupun, Wis. Since 1891 he has been president of the Santa Rosa Business college, California. He is the author of Sweet's Short Methods in Arithmetic; Sweet's Bookkeeping; Elements of Geometry; Sweet's System of Practical Penmanship; and other works.
