Swayne, Noah Haynes
lawyer, jurist, state legislator, was born Dec. 7, 1804, in Culpeper county, Va. In 1829 he was elected to the legislature of Ohio, and in 1830 was appointed United States district attorney for Ohio, holding that position nine years, and residing in Columbus. In 1834 he was chosen judge of the court of common pleas, but declined the office, and in 1836 was again elected to the state legislature. In 1861 he was appointed a justice of the supreme court of the United States. He died June 8, 1884, in New York city.
