Sumner, Charles Allen

lawyer, jurist, was born Aug. 2, 1835, in Great Barrington, Mass. During the war he served as a captain in the second Massachusetts volunteer infantry; and was colonel of the first Nevada infantry. He was congressman-at-large for California in the forty-eighth congress. Prior to his term of service in congress he was a member of the Nevada state senate during 1864-68, the latter year as president of the senate. He is a stenographer of San Francisco; and the author of Shorthand and Reporting; Golden Gate Sketches; Travels in Southern Europe; and a volume of Poems.
