Stone, David
lawyer, jurist, United States senator, governor, was born Feb. 17, 1770, in Hope, N. C. He was for four years in the state legislature; and was a judge of the supreme court of North Carolina from 1795 to 1798. He was a representative in congress from 1799 to 1801; was a senator in congress from 1801 to 1807; and was governor of North Carolina in 1808. He served a second time as United States senator from 1813 to 1814.
He died Oct. 7, 1818, in Raleigh, N. C.
