Stevenson, Andrew
agriculturist, state legislator, congressman, was born in 1784 in Culpeper county, Va. He was a member of the Virginia state legislature where for several sessions he was elected speaker of the house. He was a representative in congress from Virginia from 1821 to 1834; and during the twentieth, twenty-first, and twenty-second congresses from 1828 to 1834 was speaker of the house. In 1836 he was appointed minister to Great Britain, and remained there until 1841. He died Jan. 25, 1857, in Blenheim, Va.
